Places to see in Bangkok during a short trip
Fun Sightseeing
Bangkok is one of the most populated cities in the world, which means that you are going into a metropolis that is bursting with life and activity. Since the city can at times be a challenge to navigate, visitors arriving for a short trip need to plan ahead. The best way to get down to it, is to decide exactly what sites interest you and then make sure you see at most of them.
The Grand Palace and Wat Prakeaw is on top of the list of sights one should see. The palace was built in 1782 when the country was called Siam. It was built as a residence for the kings until 1946. It is now a popular tourist site and attached to it is the Wat Prakeaw temple that has a magnificent Jade Buddha in it. Another temple that you should make a trip to is the Wat Pho temple or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. It is one of the largest and oldest temples in the city which has a golden reclining Buddha statue which is 46 m long and 15m high. The site has a record for housing the most number of Buddha statues in the world which is something worth seeing.
Bangkok is known as a shopping destination and one of the best locations for shopping is Central World. Built around the year 1990, the store has been refurbished and carries local and international brands. After shopping at Central World try to make a trip to Wat Arun also known as the Temple of Dawn. The structure of the temple is representative of Mount Meru and it stands on the banks of the Chao Praya River. What you should see is the sun rise or the sunset that falls behind the temple structure and illuminates its intricate golden designs.
Jim Thompson’s House is next in line; the house was built by the famous American CIA officer. He had an impressive collection of South Asian art and was also the catalyst that revived the Thai silk industry after World War II. Bangkok Klongs, or the ‘Venice of the East’ is the next attraction you must visit. The traditional floating market is very impressive; it is interesting how trade and commerce is conducted in this manner. Khao San Road is also another must visit site; the street is small but filled with cafes, bars, streets stalls and food stalls. It is a road that gives you a feeling of being in the lively capital of Thailand.
For trips to Thailand look for Bangkok serviced apartments since they are fully equipped with all the amenities you will need and one place that can be recommended is Anantara Baan Raajprasong Bangkok. It offers well placed Sukhumvit accommodation and lets you experience the very best the city has to offer.
