The Grand Palace was built in 1782 for the King Rama 1 who declared Bangkok as the new capital of Thailand, hence the need for a new palace. Wat Phra Kaew was built in 1785.

Emerald Buddha

The Emerald Buddha measures to 66 cm in height and sits above the worshippers. The Emerald Buddha is housed inside the central both, known as Ubosoth. The Emerald Buddha is always draped in monastic robes; different ones for each season.
