Built in the 1700’s, the Grand Palace of Thailand is one of the county’s most renowned tourist attractions. No matter what sightseeing tour of Bangkok you decided to book, this attraction is definitely likely to make the top of the list as it is a crucial part of the country’s heritage. It served as the royal abode of the Thai King for over a century and a half, and was also the base of the country’s administrative power during that time. It can be found near the Chao Praya river in the capital city, and views of it are often enjoyed from those who alight on mini-cruises along the same river.
Inside the palace grounds you will find many different mini-attractions, the most famous of which is The Temple of the Emerald Buddha (known as Wat Phra Kaew in Thai). This temple is named as such because it houses the Emerald Buddha statue which has a history of over seven hundred years. There are also two throne rooms you can visit here in addition to a number of other halls and rooms that used to be used by court officials and royalty of old. If you’re hungry after you’re tour of the palace grounds, you’ll be glad to know that many of what can be considered as the best restaurants in Bangkok are located in and around the area.
Some of them are standalone eateries while others are restaurants that operate within resorts and hotels such as Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok for example, and may be a little further away. All that walking around inside the Grand Palace complex is sure to have worked up a healthy appetite, so whether it’s a restaurant nearby or one further away, make sure to sample some of Bangkok’s best cuisine after you are done with sightseeing.
