Suan Pakkad Palace Musuem

The capital city of the Southeast Asian nation of Thailand is Bangkok. Considered to be one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, Bangkok serves as the hub of Thailand’s political, cultural and social activity. The city is known for its vibrant culture, busting shopping districts, thriving night life and red light districts, and recreational attractions, which are a few of the reasons it is so popular amongst tourists.

One of the many museums of Bangkok, which showcase the grandeur and splendour of the culture of Thailand, is the Suan Pakkad Palace Museum. Once the residence of Prince Chumbhotpong Paripatra and his Princess, the Suan Pakkad Palace was converted to a museum in 1952 and houses a grand collection of valuable artefacts, depicting chapters of Thailand’s history. The museum is constructed in a manner which resembles a series of traditional Thai houses, and is sure to offer a tourist a unique experience.

Located along Sri Ayudhya Road, the Suan Pakkad Palace Museum itself is a testament to architecture according to Thai culture, as its houses and pavilions are considered to be ideal examples of Thai architecture. The museum compound consists of eight Thai houses, each which showcase a variety of artefacts of Thai heritage, including pottery, sculptures, paintings and lacquer works. The museum’s pottery collection is indeed marvellous, as the museum houses various works of pottery which hail from various times of history. Another highlight of the museum is the Bin Cheng collection, including bronze, clay and iron utensils and implements, which supposedly date back over 4,000 years! One will also be intrigued by the Lacquer Pavilion, which dates back almost 450 years. The pavilion houses a host of beautiful and intricate lacquer items which stand testament to the craftsman ship and creativity of the Thai people. One can also witness one of the Royal Barges at the Suan Pakkad Palace Museum.
